چکیده

the resistance of plasmodium falciparum to 4-amioquinolines has been confirmed in parts of south america such as venezuela, colombia, brazil and panama since 1961. during 1968-1970, 147 p. falciparum cases in the kazeroon and bandar abbas areas were tested against 4-aminoquinolines, bases on 25 mg resochin /kg of body weight over a period of 3 days. twenty–foure, 48 , 72 and 96 hours after drug administration, the parasitemia rate was 80.5, 24.8, 1.65 and 0 per cennt, respectively . blood samples taken from the subjects showed no asexual parasitemia for up to 28 days. tests were carried out by the two – stage and single – stage methods (who, 1965 , 1967).the subjects were observed daily for 7 days after drug administration and then weekly for up to 4 weeks. urine samples were taken and examined for chloroqine by days, one subject showed parasitemia. he was re-treated with 4-aminoquinolines and his blood was cleared of asexual parasites after the administration of 1500 mg of chloroqine.these studies showed that the local strain of p. falciparum in this area was susceptible to chloroqine.

In Vitro Activity of Mefloquine and its Enantiomers Against Plasmodium falciparum

The in vitro activity of rac-mefloquine hydrochloride and its pure enantiomers was tested against a chloroquine-resistant (PF.IBS2) strain of Plasmodium falciparum. The parasite isolated from Iranian patients was cultured in vitro by the candle jar method described by Tranger and Jensen and was exposed to the racemic mefloquine or its enantiomers over the concentration range of 10-9 to 10-4 M. ...

RESISTANCE OF PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM TO CHLOROQUINE IN SOUTH EASTERN IRAN

In vivo and in vitro assessments of the response of P. falciparum to chloroquine using WHO standard kits and techniques were carried out in I ran Shahr, Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran in 1985. In the in vivo assessment, 24 malaria patients treated with chloroquine (25mg/kg over three days) were followed up for one to four weeks. The mean parasite clearance time was 4.3 days and in...

Pharmacokinetics of ferroquine, a novel 4-aminoquinoline, in asymptomatic carriers of Plasmodium falciparum infections.

Ferroquine (SSR97193), a ferrocene-quinoline conjugate, is a promising novel antimalarial currently undergoing clinical evaluation. This study characterizes its pharmacokinetic properties. Young male African volunteers with asymptomatic Plasmodium falciparum infection were administered a single oral dose (n = 40) or a repeated oral dose (n = 26) given over 3 days of ferroquine in two dose-escal...

MOLECULAR SURVEILLANCE OF Plasmodium vivax AND Plasmodium falciparum DHFR MUTATIONS IN ISOLATES FROM SOUTHERN IRAN

In Iran, both Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum malaria have been detected, but P. vivax is the predominant species. Point mutations in dihydrofolate reductase (dhfr) gene in both Plasmodia are the major mechanisms of pyrimethamine resistance. From April 2007 to June 2009, a total of 134 blood samples in two endemic areas of southern Iran were collected from patients infected with P. vivax and...

Genotyping of C and F Regions of Plasmodium Falciparum EBA-175 in South-East of Iran

Abstract Background and Objective: The Plasmodium falciparum EBA-175, via Sialic acid dependent glycophorin A, binds to red blood cells and thus plays a critical role in cell invasion. Some part of second allele in its gene encoding in FCR-3 (Section F) and CAMP (Section C) can be found. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum EBA-175KD alleles in southeastern I...
